AGM 2019-21: Chairman’s Report.

Hello everyone and thank you all for coming along this evening; it has been two years since we were last able to hold an Annual General Meeting and this one was in some jeopardy. I thank you all for wearing masks as we must do all we can to minimise the dangers of the pandemic which has affected so much in our lives for the past two years.

It seems a lifetime ago since the game at Halifax in March 2020 when we were still in the National League. So much has happened since then but it doesn’t do to dwell on it – suffice to say The Fleet ended up being relegated by the smallest of margins to find themselves back in the National League South with a new Manager in Dennis KUTREIB and a new CEO, Damian Irvine.

During this time the Fleet Supporters’ Trust has helped with volunteers both Members and non-Members during all the games played without crowds. A big thank you to all those who gave so willingly of their time.

Volunteers also did a lot of work around the ground and continue to do so as well as filling roles on match days. Again many thanks to you all for sterling work. Much of the materials needed were funded by The Fleet Supporters’ Trust; we also funded the new gates at the Swanscombe End which are a vast improvement on the old gates which had reached the end of their life.

As it was not possible for Members to renew their membership in August 2020 there being no crowds allowed The Board decided to automatically renew all memberships for 2020-2021. Since August 2021 renewals have resumed as normal and membership is holding up with a number of new members joining to take advantage of the reduced cost of away travel which members enjoy.

Away travel has been very well supported and is very well organised by Tracy DOWN assisted by John Eves. Please keep your support up for away games as I know how much it is appreciated by the management and players.

If there is sufficient demand we will provide transport to the game v Dartford on Sunday 26th December as there is, apparently, no public transport running that day, the cost will be £5 per head payable at the time of booking – this deal has been made possible following a generous legacy to The Trust by the late David Preston who was a lifelong Fleet supporter. Bookings can be made tonight and at our office on 11th December v Concord and 18th December v Bath.

The weekend away is to Bath on 4th -6th March 2022 and has been very well supported. There is only one room available. If you are interested speak to me.

This season has seen a different brand of football played by the team under the management of Dennis. I’m sure you will all agree it is very pleasing to the eye even if the results don’t always go our way.

The Board has lost one of its most hardworking members as Ann CLARK – Ann THOMAS – has got married and moved away although she still helps out when she is able to get to games. We are always on the lookout for new members to join The Board and spread the workload so if anyone would like to join us please speak up!

Lastly I would like to thank all the Members of The Board for their hard work and support during the past two years. I would also like to thank you all for your unstinting support for The Fleet Supporters’ Trust and The FLEET as they seek a return to The National League.
